How to Fish Lighthouse Island — First Rock
Clams, Empty Beer Can, Spider Crab Shell, Boat Keys, then the $10 Radar.
The Lighthouse is where every How to Fish save begins. You wake after the crash on a small rock with a keeper, a shop board, Clams on the sand, and a boat you cannot start. Nothing later on the Radar exists until this island’s quest is finished. Patch 1.0.5 still blocks sailing to Forest, Desert, Rocks, or Volcano without the unlock. This page is the Island 1 loop through FANART & PATCH 1.0.10.
If you only wanted the first hour without island names, use Getting Started. If you already have keys and are staring at empty water, you skipped the Radar. The creature checklist for this rock lives here and on Fish Locations.
What lives here
| Creature | How you get it | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Clam | Ground pickup | Eat if hungry, sell extras to the keeper |
| Brown Crab | Crab rod + Ham | Early cash |
| Shrimp | Crab rod + Ham | Early cash |
| Rock Crab | Crab rod + Hot Dog | Slightly better pay |
| Lobster | Crab rod + Hot Dog | Best cheap shell |
| Spider Crab | Empty Beer Can | Story boss. Keep the Shell |
Seagulls also visit. They steal land catches. You can shoot them and sell them. They are catalogued as ambient creatures for Collector, not as a fishing pool. Drip variants of the crabs use the same bait with a rainbow name. The Island 1 Reel of Fortune only rolls melee skins — see Skins.
Shop and first spend
Feed Clams to the Lighthouse Keeper for starting dollars. Buy the Crab Fishing Rod ($3) before you try to “punch the ocean.” Ham and Hot Dog cover the crab pool. Brass Knuckles ($24) or the Knife ($45) come before Spider Crab; fists are a miserable solo plan. The anvil next to the lighthouse can sharpen the Knife if you have the cash (community routes often spend about $78 across three sharpens). Beer ($12) is the quest item, not a heal.
Do not buy a later-island fantasy rod. There is no Master Rod on this rock. The rod delivers bait. Damage is melee until Forest sells a shotgun.
Who stole my beer
Buy Beer, give the full can to the keeper, and keep the Empty Beer Can he returns. Equip the empty can, stand on the dock, and cast. The Spider Crab is guaranteed with that bait. It has a short health bar (about 100 on Normal). It charges in a straight line. Sidestep, wait for stars over its head, land two or three melee hits from behind, and back off before the pincers recover. Repeat.
When it dies, pick up the Spider Crab Shell. Ordinary crab meat is not the hand-in. Carry the Shell to the keeper. That animation pays Boat Keys and the Who stole my beer achievement. Selling the Shell because it looks valuable is the classic Island 1 brick.
Radar, then leave
Buy the handheld Radar for $10 from the same keeper before you board. It is not a fish finder. It paints unlocked islands. Without it the boat has nowhere useful to point. Patch 1.0.10 removed the death X that used to look like a waypoint. Details: Radar. The $200 Boat Radar that mounts on the dashboard is sold later on the Rocks, not here.
Sail toward the green Forest marker once keys and Radar are both in inventory. You can return to the Lighthouse any time after it is unlocked. Ground piles from Patch 1.0.10 (64-item cap) mean a spare knife on the dock can survive a quit if the game prioritized it.
