How to Fish How to Make the Boat Fly

I’m the bird now is the Steam achievement that asks you to make the boat fly. Players often assume the top engine or a hidden flight toggle is required. The current community method is simpler and meaner: park the boat in the water, put dynamite under the hull, back away, and detonate. The physics launch counts. The boat is not destroyed by that blast.

You cannot buy dynamite on the Lighthouse. Finish Who stole my beer, beat the Spider Crab, return the shell, and take the Boat Keys. Sail to the Forest (Island 2). The shop sells dynamite for about $25. That is the only gated item for this achievement. Getting an upgrade ($230 engine) and I am speed ($860 best engine) are separate purchases on later islands and do not replace the dynamite trick.

Step-by-step

1. Unlock the boat on Island 1 and buy the Radar so you can actually leave.
2. Reach Island 2 and buy dynamite from the shop (~$25).
3. Put the boat in the water with a clear sky above the hull. Do not jam it against a cliff if you want a clean launch.
4. Equip dynamite, light it, and place or throw the bundle underneath the hull — beside the boat wastes the blast.
5. Sprint out of the lethal radius. If the bundle is still in your hands when it explodes, you die. The achievement can still pop if the boat left the water.
6. Watch the boat go up. I’m the bird now should unlock.

Almost every failed attempt is placement. The charge has to sit under the hull, not on the dock and not on a nearby rock. One bundle is enough. Stacking extra dynamite is a good way to kill yourself without a cleaner launch.

What this is not

This is not a travel exploit for the Volcano. Patch 1.0.5 removed sailing to locked islands, so a flying boat will not skip Forest, Desert, or Rocks. It is also not the Bean one-hour route. Bean still needs the full trophy chain inside sixty minutes; see the Walkthrough and Achievements.

Engine upgrades still matter for ordinary sailing. I am speed is the best engine. Getting an upgrade is the cheaper Forest engine. Neither one makes the boat fly for the achievement. If a guide tells you to max the engine for I’m the bird now, it is mixing two different Steam tasks.

Co-op and physics chaos

In a lobby, one player can plant while another sits at the wheel. Tell the group before you light the fuse. Patch 1.0.10 limited explosion velocity so items do not fly so far they disappear, but the boat launch for this achievement still works from a hull charge. Do not use this stunt as storage. If you care about ground loot, remember 1.0.10 now keeps up to 64 world items on save, prioritizing weapons, tools, quest items, and creatures.

Dynamite is also used for Everyone’s dream (kill a seagull with dynamite) and for blasting clusters of fish into cook piles. Those are separate goals. Do the flying-boat attempt in open water so you do not grief a friend’s stash or a quest trophy sitting on the sand.
