How to Finish How to Fish
The mutated whale dying is not the credits. Fin, keys, start the RHIB.
Finishing How to Fish is a short checklist that a lot of crews skip while celebrating. The Mutated Bowhead Whale is the last fight, not the last input. Official achievement text for We are so back is finishing the game. In practice that means the Volcano scientist accepts the Whale Fin, hands you military / RHIB keys, and you start the RHIB toward the mainland. This page is that tail through Patch 1.0.10.
If Volcano is not on the Radar, you are not at the ending. Follow Walkthrough from Lighthouse through Forest, Desert, and Rocks. Patch 1.0.5 removed the old sail-to-volcano skip.
Last island recap
On Volcano, feed five native fish to the hazmat scientist for the Fish Bucket. Summon and kill the regular Bowhead Whale. Carry the carcass up and throw it in the crater. Fight the mutated whale on flat military ground with a kitted Assault Rifle and lava heals. Patch 1.0.4 nerfed whale health; Hard mode from 1.0.9 puts pressure back. Loot the Whale Fin immediately. Seagulls and eight-player chaos will steal it. Ground save (64 items) helps if you drop it and crash, but put it in inventory before you wander.
Credits steps
- Give the Fin to the scientist.
- Take the RHIB / military boat keys.
- Walk to the RHIB and start it.
- Watch the sail home. We are so back should pop.
Handyman is a last-hit rule on the whale, not a RHIB rule. Bean is a one-hour finish that includes this sail — do it on a dedicated save. Neither achievement replaces the Fin hand-in.
The story does not publish a named wreck or a lore bible. Story stays with what is on screen. There is no second secret ending in the official 28 achievements.
After the credits
Unlocked islands stay on the Radar. This is Collector, Fishipedia, GOLD GOLD GOLD, leftover Drip, casino, and Bing Bong if you skipped Coconut. Easy/Hard can be changed for cleanup fights. Private lobbies keep griefers out of your encyclopedia grind. Fanart lives on the Community Discord as of 1.0.10; it is not an in-game gallery.
If the RHIB will not start, you are on the wrong boat, you lack keys, or you are in a client session whose host never finished the hand-in. Match builds. Restart Steam after patches so 1.0.10 ground items and whale fixes are actually present.
Stuck states that are not a secret ending
Whale dead, no Fin. Seagull, water, or a teammate sold meat. Check birds and the 64-item ground save before you farm another bucket.
Scientist will not take the Fin. You are offering a steak, a Goblin Shark, or a Coconut. The label is Whale Fin. Talk again after the animation.
Keys in inventory, RHIB silent. You are sitting in the old crash boat or a friend’s dinghy. Walk to the military RHIB on Volcano and interact with the start control.
Credits, then “empty Radar.” Patch 1.0.10 hid some end-screen dots. Unlocked islands remain if you open the handheld or Boat Radar in play. There is no second credits scene for Bing Bong or GOLD GOLD GOLD.
